Saving Money on Groceries

HAPPY MONDAY, Slow Cookerers!

I've been doing a few podcast and newspaper interviews these past few weeks and the price of groceries, and the cost of fresh food has come up quite a bit lately.

Inflation is real.

I am most certainly not an economist, and I will be the first to admit that I stink at math -- but I am super very aware that things are costing more at the grocery store than they used to.

:-(

and it stinks.

The good news though, is that you are HERE -- and here, we are all about trying to save both time and money -- with the absolute best kitchen appliance ever invented.

;-)

I have found that when you plan ahead, the price of fresh food, or food flash-frozen at the peak of freshness (your frozen bagged veggies) is actually quite cost effective.

It does take some planning, however. Otherwise you are starving and reach for a packaged pizza or run through the drive through.

Also, I've written about this before, but my favorite way to slow cook is truly The Lazy Way.

I cook this way OFTEN. Last week I was at Trader Joe's and in their "new stuff" area there was a jar of Mango Tomatillo sauce.

I poured half the jar onto 3 frozen chicken breast halves, and cooked on low for 7 hours.

When the meat was finished, I shredded it completely and served in warm corn tortillas with shredded cheese and sour cream.

The next night I stirred the leftovers into cooked rice for a play on "Spanish Rice."

And finally, the slow cooker meal plans really are the most efficient way to stock your fridge, freezer, and pantry for the week.

These are reusable -- print out your favorites and recycle the weeks over and over again so you'll never need to worry about dinner again. :-)
