Slow Cooking Out of the House (on vacation, camping, etc.)

Happy Monday, Slow Cookerers!!!

I hope you had a lovely and wonderful weekend.

Today, let's talk Slow Cooking when Not At Home.

Because that is what is going to happen in my family this upcoming week since it is Spring Break (hallelujah!!) and we have rented a beach house for a few days.

I picked it out solely because it was dog-friendly so Sheldon is going to come along with us.

He can't wait.

I wanted to point out a few different ways that you can still have an easy-peasy time with cooking and clean-up in the Spring & Summertime months --

because during these seasons you may find yourself having lots and lots of:

potluck gatherings
school fundraisers
sport event snack bars
church potlucks and/or fundraisers

and so my goal for today is to (try and) convince you to Remember Your Slow Cookers(!) while planning your event, fundraising sale, or family roadtrip/vacation.

If you are in charge of a Concession Stand ---

I suggest 4 Slow Cookers.

One for Nacho Cheese (from a can! the bright orange fluorescent variety!)

One for Taco Soup (sold as chili, and then spooned over the top of hotdogs and nachos)

One for Chicken Teriyaki (cooked the Lazy Way with bottled Teriyaki sauce)

One for Hot Dogs

it will be awesome.

AND? Be sure to use the Slow Cooker Liners for your Little League/Softball/etc etc snack bar booth.

You will thank me profusely, as will your Clean Up Crew.

It is SO NOT FUN to scoop out thickened congealed nacho cheese sauce from your slow cooker after it's been plugged in for 12 hours.

Trust me.

It is completely and totally awesome to just lift the bag out and toss it into the trash after you've been on your feet for 16 hours ~~listening to complaints~~ helping customers.

I don't use these that often at home, but I most certainly am not opposed when I'm out and about!

Alrighty. Now let's talk Vacationing with Your Slow Cooker.

I've written before that I'm a fan of taking your slow cooking along for the ride when on a camping road trip.

You can read all about that, here (along with my favorite camping recipes).

BUT.

If you are planning a road trip and are going to stay in a hotel/motel that has a kitchenette or are renting a house through Air B n' B or VRBO, then I'd *highly* recommend using your slow cooker.

I have amazing kids. I love them so much my heart bursts. But at the end of a long day of traveling or sight-seeing, they just don't have "restaurant manners."

and there is nothing worse then trying to corral a cranky 2-year old at Applebees while you wait for your table.

and then wait another 45 minutes for a soggy grilled cheese sandwich.

and then another 25 for your check to come.

Seriously.
